Motivation
So the "Daniel Pink on the surprising science of motivation" video is FANTASTIC!!!!! I LOVE that someone has "proven" that rewards and incentives aren't what motivation is all about! I mean, I know it's not a brand new idea or anything but this guy puts the idea and the facts into a good, understandable way. He talks about how people don't always do their best when presented with an external motivator - it depends on the task their given. He focuses mostly on how this exists in the business world but I totally see it in the classroom as well. It's obvious that fastest is not always best and that "prizes" don't always encourage the best work. The hard part, and I guess this is why things don't always work out well in the business world, is figuring out when to implement incentives and what to use as the incentives.
